Kefalonia Island
The amazing island of Kefalonia belongs to the Ionian island complex in western Greece. It is the largest island of this complex and allures its visitors with its long history and sheer beauty. It is mountainous and offers fantastic verdant sceneries, in addition to magnificent beaches with transparent waters. The island of Kefalonia has very rich biodiversity and in fact, it is the nestling house of the loggerhead sea turtle Carreta Carreta and the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus Monachus.
It is worth mentioning that both species are endangered. Its flora is equally rich; notably, the mountain range of Ainos is covered with black pine and Greek fir, which is native to Greece. It has two main settlements: the town of Argostoli, which has been the capital of Kefalonia since 1757, and the settlement of Lixouri. Both of them are located on the west side of Kefalonia Island and have plenty of worth-visiting sights.
